The first few days

Here's a little history from the beginning. Well, this whole idea came to fruition back in early October. Iris had suggested that I build a yurt to live in. I had no idea at the time what yurt even was. So when I did my research I was quite intrigued with the idea of living in a round cabin. The yurt is fairly simple to build and very strong when put together. So we started clearing brush at our site and making room for the building. I decided to build it on a deck to elevate it off the ground for storage beneath and to have a nice sundeck for the spring and summer. It took me just over a month to have it all up and sealed to live in, complete with a wood stove and a door made of old fence boards. The first few days were rough. Our roof was two 20'x40' tarps and they weren't fastened very securely at the beginning so, of course, the wind and rain decided to turn the first night into a living hell. We ended up retreating back to a warm house on our first night. Needless to say, I fastened the roof/tarps a lot better and we were able to keep more of the heat in for a much more comfortable stay. We will upload lots of photos taken right from the beginning so you can get an idea of what I'm talking about.
